This term we are learning about space. Did you know that there is a planet in our solar system that is just like earth? I has land, water and oxygen. But it’s further away from Earth than Pluto so we can’t get much information. I really love learning about the planets. It is so interesting.

People from Taylors Lakes Primary School competed in the District Cross Country. The people that made it into cross country had to qualify. Some people made it into the zone cross country. It was my first time at cross country and it was a really hard course. It takes determination and hard work. There were nine schools competing and all together we came fourth. Everyone tried their hardest and did a fantastic job. GO LAKERS!

On Tuesday the 20th of May the grade fives got to be included in a special Reach Rookies Program. Two people came to be with us, their names were Kieren and Glenn.

First we got to try and beat the record for seeing how quick everyone could touch the rubber ball. The record was 1.90 seconds and our record was 1.35 seconds. Next we stood in a circle and there were 27 pieces of tape on the floor and one in the middle, it was like musical chairs but we had to move to different parts of the circle and the person that didn’t have a bit of tape had to go in the middle and say their name and say something that makes them different.

    We also got to lie down on the floor while Kieren told us a story and we had to picture it in our minds. After that we sat down in another circle and Glenn got a big ball of string and we all had to give a complement to someone in the room. In the end everyone was holding onto a piece of string and it looked like a giant spiderweb. It was really fun being with them and we are going to see them again at the end of the year.      

On Tuesday the 13th of May everyone in Australia in year levels 3,5,7 and 9 had to do a special test called NAPLAN, it used to be called AIM but the government changed it.

    There are four areas it covers, writing, reading, language and maths. I thought that the maths one wasn’t very hard. My least favourite one is the reading. My favourite one was the numaracy test. It’s over now and I’m going to be doing it again in another two years.   

On Friday the 25th of April it is ANZAC Day and ANZAC stands for Australian New Zealand Army Corps. Every year our country has this special day to remember the soldiers that lost their lives fighting at war. Every year we have a special parade in the city with the soldiers that didn’t loose there lives at war. I really don’t think that war is necessary and I feel sorry for the people who are going through it right now.

On this special occasion lots of people wear a poppy to remember the other soldiers at war, because poppies were growing in the battle fields when they were fighting. So remember to take a minute silence to remember the soldiers that lost their lives fighting for a free and safe country.
